Mon August 18, 2008: A Stormy Compilation: FU Fay

Posted on 18 August 2008 by Robert W

With Ts/Hurricane Fay on the way (rhyme not intended), here is a little rainy day compilation just in case I don’t get to post over the next few days.  FU Fay

Got to love Nick Cave…with or without the bad seeds, this man knows how to write, play and just plain send shivers.  The John Lee Hooker version is awesome, but Nick gives it all to make it his own.

No this is not Garbage.  Not even close.

She is, quite simply, amazing.  Was then, is now and will be.  Get this poster by Stainboy.  Lonestar is a dependable reseller.  I have bought a lot of art from them.

Was sitting by the pool havin a smoke and a drink and KOL just fits right with the mood.  They have a new album coming out in September.  This is one of those bands I had a chance to see, but blew it.  They were performing on Halloween, and nothing (even this great band) interrupts my Halloween.  Maybe this year.

Days 5, 6, & 7: A Little Late

Posted on 15 August 2008 by Robert W

To all 5 of my readers, I apologize for the delay in getting my updates up.

Day 5

Hershey park is AWSOME!  It is a great place for kids and adults alike…blah blah blah.  Its a theme park, its fun and the kid loved it.  I am not a theme park reviewer…just a lover.

Day 6

Had a character breakfast.  Now, being a Florida boy, I know theme park characters.  I can understand a breakfast with the Mouse (corporate symbol) and the pirates.  But seriously…a hershey bar as a character?  Well, the kid got a kick out of it, and I got some chocolate butter for my pancakes.  Followed up breakfast by hitting the road for home

Day 7

More driving.  Made it home!

NOW BACK TO SOMETHING MORE ENTERTAINING!

Oh Come on!  I had to put this up with the vacation spot, it just just made sense.  If you get a chance, I highly suggest picking up the Smoking Popes version of this.  I saw them several times quite a few years ago, and this happens to be one of the best songs live.

Day 4: The Hershey Hotel and Butterfly Garden

Posted on 11 August 2008 by Robert W

Day 4 was a nice relaxing day after about a 3 1/2 hour drive from the reunion.  Our room was not quite ready so we walked down and played some shuffle board - Nate is surprisingly talented.  After our shuffle board time we walked down a path to the Hershey Butterfly Gardens and got some great and terrible pictures.  It was here I came to

terms with the fact that I need to bury the old powershot…it’s shot.  I have an old SLR Rebel which I love, but when digital came about it took a back seat to the convenience.  I think it is time to upgrade.

FYI.  These posts are a day behind because I’m lazy.

Sun August 10, 2008: Yazoo (Yaz): Nobody’s Diary

I have had to suffer through the heavy rotation of this 2 album only band this entire trip due to their reunion tour.  So suffer with me.  I like Yaz…but I am really sick of them now.  This is a great song though, so enjoy.

Day 3: Revision

Posted on 10 August 2008 by Robert W

Ok. First off, the town we were supposed to go to was Swissville…I think.  It doesn’t matter anyway because we d

id not even make it that far.  The waitress at the place we had breakfast told us about Idlewild (voted the second best kids park in the country) - only 20 miles dow the road from our hotel.  Of course theme park wins ut any day for a kid…and child like parents too.  So Day 3 was a blast and we finished off the evening with the reunion dinner.  Nate and I snuck out around 8:30-9:00 and crashed on the pullout couch watching Shark Tale.

Day 3: First morning of the reunion

Posted on 09 August 2008 by Robert W

Well we made it! Had an interesting dinner last night at a place called Mr. P’s. An Italian restaurant with pretty good homemade gnochhi (sp?), but sauce from a jar LOL. It also had one of the most racist jokes on the menu i have seen in a long time…and I’m from the south. All in all things went well and got to meet some nice people. We are going to Springfield today; my father in laws birth town

Family Road Trip Begins

Posted on 07 August 2008 by Robert W

Ok, the trip to PA for the family reunion…and of course Hershey Park (I go to join my fellow chocoholics in Nirvana)… begins today!  I will be updating from the road, so some of the formatting may get a little wonky. For those of you who can, keep an eye on loopt for my updates, as well as flickr.

Fountains of Wayne are not only great summer music, but great morning music.   I was really hoping to dig up Seatbacks & Tray Tables from the latest album as that is what is actually pumping through my speakers atm.  This could also be the last daily upload until I get back from vacation.  If I have time in the evenings I may get to posting a daily or two from the hotels.
