I love football. I hate football. It is what being a fan is. Your team wins a lot or, in my case, your team looses a lot (St. Louis Rams must fire people now). But what really steams me is, that not only do I sit through some very bad football (RAMS) , but then I sit through the use of certain songs that have NO place in football. Just because a song has the word Sunday in the lyric does not mean it should be used to promote what is a wonderful sport I love to hate (Rams Stink). My case in point: Morrissey’s, Everyday Is Like Sunday is now being used to score an NFL commercial and it has even been country-ized…is that a word? I digress. I wonder if the marketing team ever listened to the song? Its not really the kind of song that makes you scream “I’m ready for some football!!” Who ever is running the ad show over at NFL, please stop. You are embarrassing yourselves.
I don’t blame Morrissey if he was involved with decision (which I doubt). I don’t blame Warners if they were involved in it. Music is a business no matter how much we may wish it were not. Who I do blame are the mush heads that pushed this idea as “good.” Wrong song. Wrong demographic. Wrong Artist. Wrong Cover. Did I mention it was wrong? End Rant.
